NOVEMBER ROUND UP (30/11/09)

A quick summary of the last thirty days wouldn't be complete without mentioning the sunshine we have enjoyed. Ok, no sunrises, no sunsets but patches of sun non the less. It only got cold this last few days so all in all it could have been a whole lot worse. We have had the odd drop of rain but we have also been lucky. Can't think of anything worse then being inundated with flood water. So, very lucky, compared to some.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Brixham 2nd Nov.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Kingswear Devon 7th Nov. You Have to have sun to have a rainbow.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Bonfire Night Dartmouth 8th Nov.......Should have been the 5th but better late than never. (This image is three images combined.) Sorry four! And they were at Kingswear the other side of the river.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA        Dartmoor on the 10th of Nov,  Can't have sunny all the time.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      The Harbour St, Michael's Mount. taken on the 15th of Nov.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Cape Cornwall 16th Nov, still the sun shines.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMolly had a haircut 17th Nov. was a touch damp that day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Peeping through the boulders Sennen Cove, not Bikini weather but not bad. 19th Nov.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Porthoustock on the 20th of Nov.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Penryn River taken on the 25th of Nov. So had to miss a few days a bit of drizzle in some of those images.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Par Beach. 27th Nov. had to concentrate on this corner to avoid all the sun loungers and nubile half naked girls!

PB290468_9_7_edited-1 Fowey 29th of Nov. Maybe not cloudless but I see blue sky.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPorthtrowan 30th Nov. Again just a touch of fair weather cumulus.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A cormorant. Now how does he dry his feathers if it rains all the time. Come to think, how the hell does it know they need drying?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Shall I Jump? No.... A good month.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     You think I compose this drivel...Nah! Molly hard at work, doing what she does best.

All the best. December is going to be magical.

PS. My cup is empty hence the good mood!!!

GREENER THAN GREEN (30/11/09)

image

image      Backtracked a bit primarily to get some pictures of tin mines.  Found this place to stop in the Caravan Club book and glad I did. Composting toilets, solar showers and no doubt much else I've yet to discover.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   The largest rammed earth building in the whole wide world....Well the UK....Amounts to much the same thing!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Thought maybe this was some sort of Druid astrological instrument, rolled about on the grass, got soaking wet and still the holes didn't line up. So just sculpture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A fence made from railway sleepers and a section of rammed earth wall.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    The Entrance....Missed that pylon, sorry, Have already had to remove a car from one image and a shed roof from another. Still, it's the gateposts that count.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    What I really came for......Tin Mines. Will have a good look around, that is if I decide not to go surfing instead, supposed to be a major surf centre here at Porthtowan.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Porthtowan......I only came here for a couple of nights but I'll see what there is to see and have a re evaluation tomorrow.

Re did yesterday's homework in the light of the totally justified criticism. I think the Polruan images can go in the bin.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA             Polruan....this is a different image..........Below is yesterdays blue image colour corrected.....Sun glasses at the ready.

PB290481_80_79_edited-1    Not solarized... Just hit a black spot with the picker in levels and this popped up, couldn't repeat it, thank heaven!!!!

Turned very cold, could be shaping up for a frost tonight. Keep warm.

IN AND OUT THE HOUSES (29/11/09)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The River Fowey... Runs from Fowey to the sea and from Fowey to Lostwithiel and from Lostwithiel to nowhere in particular. After yet another stormy night we set off over the hill to Fowey. One hell of a walk so I was very grateful to have had the foresight to order a cab. Sunshine and showers best describes the day. Higgeldy Piggeldy best describes Fowey, a charming little place. No two buildings the same and an amazing number of banks and pubs.

PB290463_2_1_edited-1 PB290444_5_3_edited-1

PB290442_1_0_edited-1 PB290484_3_2_edited-1

PB290481_80_79_edited-1    Polruan.......All the above images are HDR with the exception of the first. A bit twee but difficult to know how to deal with this light. So in for a penny...and overkill.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe church dominates the town and is a beautiful building. It remains, as it should, unadulterated.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The lead light for ships, this was and still is the major port for the export of China Clay. We walked up to the loading dock but no ships were in and we were driven back by the rain. Into the Ship Inn.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Just opened and lovely and warm. Tomorrow we are away to St Agnes so let us hope for a change in the weather. Nothing wrong with a bit of rain, I suppose............Keeps the dust down!

A PROBLEM (28/11/09)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA                                'Houston, or in this case Olympus, I think we have a problem.'

After a month of torrential rain, water has got at me pixels, they are smudging. A subject not covered in your FAQS.  (Got everywhere else but I've contacted the NHS on that matter as I suspect it's outside your remit).  Apart from doing a Swallow and shifting or a Hedgehog and hibernating, do you have any constructive comments or better still a solution.

So starts another day and it's a day off, printed some Molly portraits for family at Christmas. Went for a walk found some Holly and Ivy so that's the decorations sorted.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA           Could be a big mistake posting this, there's a better than evens chance I'll have to do the Marks and Spencer food catalogue.

Also found my main course.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Enough for two........

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMust be a mind reader. Clever birds these or maybe the net gave me away.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Don't know what this is but more red berries than one can shake a stick at. Am missing red berries.............Not for long!

Sorry for shattering your eyes, off to Fowey tomorrow..........Knew I'd forget something..........Laundry........Arrgh!

A BAD WORKMAN (27/11/09)

A bad workman blames his tools, and I presume a bad photographer blames the scene, the light or in this case both. The toys were well and truly out of my pram today. Half way across the street in fact!

Woke to the now familiar sound of beating rain, by nineish it seemed to have cleared so we set off for a stroll down to Par. Only small light showers today, one every ten minutes! The camera was in and out of it's bag more often than a rabbit in the magicians hat. As I've said before you get what I get and today it's about as bad as it gets.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    A Corner of Par Sands....These boulders look to be part of a training wall, why I'm afraid I can't tell you.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   A Bit Of Marble Statuary.....Door, curtain, stairs and books, again I'm at a loss. It's sighted at the entrance to a miniature nature reserve and a larger static caravan site. Appears to have little connection with either. Possibly posh fly tipping?

Having exhausted the obvious possibilities we set off for the harbour, four hours later, only joking it's not quite that far, we arrived, more chance of gaining access to the royal mint.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The docks are part of this china clay drying and milling plant, in fact Par is part of this china clay drying and milling plant. Unfortunately only about a third of it seems to be still working. I suspect we can blame the Chinese and their, undoubtedly inferior, but no doubt cheaper china clay.

For further adventures we set off to Charlestown a private harbour owned by The Square Sail Company and set for many a film and movie. Got to be photogenic. I now have undying respect for the skill and artistry of professional cinematographers. In a moment you will see why.

Denied access to the interesting bits, I was left with bits to shoot, here are the bits.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A china clay loading shute.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   A hopper from a loading shute, like this old scrap, nice textures.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The dock and a urinal. Very Calvinist round here, all this work when they have the whole Atlantic not six feet away.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Bowsprit of a square rigger, I was ages looking for an angle that would show the complete ship. To no avail, access to the dock denied and a damn great mobile crane not helping.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe best I could do.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The Shipwreck Museum, Oh! And a rainbow.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  This is a nice place, so pay no heed to my jaundiced view. Be warned it's not dog friendly!

I want to visit Fowey just over the hill. Sunday looks to be favourite as tomorrows forecast is awful. Have a good weekend.
